The Main Character

The Bigger Picture

I recently read an article about Main Character Syndrome or more commonly known as MCS. Unknowingly, I haven’t had the pleasure to know someone with this syndrome or maybe I didn’t recognize it as such in my environment. It’s a very common annoyance that it is becoming more and more unhinged. The definition of this syndrome is:

‘The idea that, in every situation, you are the main character in the story of life and everyone else is secondary.’

Since this is the case, I suppose I have tried to ignore it, or unknowingly played the role of bystander and thought it may become a past fad or trend like so many other social nuisances. That has not been the case.

Many in our society seem to believe this is okay since there isn’t any apparent law breaking or moral code being altered. It’s just another way to express yourself to the world. Its loud and clear, “If you don’t like it, that’s your problem.”

The demand for attention has plagued some of us at some point in our lives. Upon a little research, the word Narcissistic became very common. Since the definition of a Narcissistic is:

‘a pattern of self-centered, arrogant thinking and behavior, a lack of empathy and consideration for other people, and an excessive need for admiration’

I would have to agree. Since MCS is not a disease, it would seem the only cure available is for an individual to change, modify or adapt to the attentions and needs of others and not just oneself.

My approach to MCS is:

“But the end of all things is at hand; therefore, be serious and watchful in your prayers. And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” I Peter 4:7-8

In other words, love your brothers and sisters as God loves all His children. The main character for a Believer or a Christian should be God The Father. He brings us all to a point where self-love will no longer make the cut, the edit nor the print. Unfortunately, that appears to be exactly what is happening. By all scripture, God has given us an innate ability to love ourselves. It’s His way of protecting us from ungodly influences that lead to: “only God knows where.”

Without self-love, we would become lost to the identities of others and follow their paths in this journey of life. We are commanded to love ourselves as God loves us. That means, our brothers and sisters and all of humanity will receive genuine love from us. Perfect!

This inflammation of MCS is becoming detrimental to our society because it influences and shapes our moral grounds guided by individuals on display. The narratives come in the form of posts on social media, videos, photos and film. The performances narrate the lives of the non-performers or NPCS (nonplayer characters) which are the audience. Thus, the one identity transforms into multiple identities. Therefore, no one is leading their own life in their own identity. Thats pretty scary.

That brings me to our God given identities which is another journey that I would have to take my diligent readers to the land of the Almighty. He has so much to say on that. So, for the intended purpose of this particular conversation, I will just observe MCS.

If we are going to assume that everyone is living in the spotlight of someone else, where does that leave the world. Our children, our families, our friends and our governs. Is there a sense of opportunity to become one with yourself and with God? Is there room for Him and Him alone? Can there be a way to battle this without becoming lost and absorbed into a blackhole of identities that will take a poor soul to “only God knows where.”

Like most self-gratifications spoken about in the Bible; this isn’t any different. MCS immediately brings self-worth, influence, lusts, betrayals, hypocrisy, vanity, mockery, jealousy and in many cases HATE.

(If I forgot some, please point it out. Thanks)

‘…knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,’ 2 peter 3:3

‘If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?’ I John 4:20

I cannot judge anyone that lives in the identity of another, nor can I condone the behavior. Clearly this was an issue thousands of years ago and Jesus knew it would

Be relevant because He told His disciples. Given the fact that there seems to be an utterance that the Bible doesn’t apply today is pure blasphemy. Because it has been diluted to only the “good loving messages”, we fail to see The Big Picture. We fail time and time again to let the enemy ride our coattails into self-destruction. It is his only goal. To hide the TRUTH!

Living autonomously, without reprimand, beyond scrutiny or even aware that THEY are in need of True Love and Acceptance.

After all, why would they need anyone else if its “me, myself and I?” The audience is just needed to fuel the attempts from their own motives, primarily a gratification, a thrill and a lust for them and them alone.

They need love that only the Almighty Father can give them. He has served the greatest love in my life and I’m able to share with you and anyone that cares to hear the TRUTH.

It has been a journey to learn about my fellow brothers and sisters to minister the TRUE LOVE applications for our tumultuous times. This is the best time to receive ALL the LOVE Heavenly Father has for you. It has been His promise since the beginning.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35
